Ruby Hotels’ first UK property opens its doors in London’s Southbank

Ruby Hotels has launched its first UK property Ruby Lucy in Southbank’s Lower Marsh, London.

Situated just a stone’s throw from Waterloo station, Ruby Lucy is in close proximity with some of the city’s best attractions. The hotel’s interior design is inspired by the area’s bustling entertainment and theatre scene and bustling fairs and markets, with a carnival theme running throughout the property. Rich, dark tones meet bright brass accents and subtle stripes are accented with playful props including circus drums and juggling pins.

The property comprises a 24-hour bar and 75 guestrooms, ranging from cosy Nest sizes to spacious Loft. Each room has been designed to help guests have a peaceful night’s sleep, with full soundproofing, blackout curtains, high-quality linen and extra-long and wide custom mattresses.

A laid-back contemporary design sees unique touches such as Ruby Radio, the hotel group’s own internet radio station, and the inclusion of a Marshall guitar amp in each room, which can be used with the guests’ own guitars or one borrowed from reception.

In keeping with the group’s other properties, Ruby Lucy follows the brand’s Lean Luxury philosophy: a prime location, high-quality fittings and outstanding design. This is offered at an affordable price by stripping the property back to the basic essential functions.

A communal space serves a healthy, locally produced breakfast without the need for a kitchen or chef, and instead of minibars and room service, galley kitchens, vending machines and ironing stations supply guests with solutions to their needs.

A modular design sees Ruby Hotels occupy mixed-use and former office buildings in the heart of the city, rather than traditional prestigious addresses with high rents.

“This works because we accommodate luxury in a relatively condensed space, similar to luxury yachts, and we forego unnecessary services,” explains Michael Struck, Founder and CEO. “Thanks to proprietary technical innovations, we plan, build and organise ourselves differently from conventional hotels. This helps us create a luxurious and unique hotel experience at an affordable price.”

Ruby Lucy forms part of an expansion plan for Ruby Hotels to unveil a total of eleven new hotels by 2022, including a second London property.
