Muuto partners with Layer for new lamp collection
Scandinavian manufacturer Muuto has collaborated with Benjamin Hubert – founder of design agency Layer – to create a collection of four pendant lamps.
The Strand collection is crafted from a fine, delicate steel frame and sprayed over with a thin cocooning material. The range takes inspiration from soft rectilinear forms drawn from classic industrial lighting, with minimalist colours used make the lights suitable for a range of interior environments.
Strand comes in four different sizes and shapes and can be hung individually or in a cluster; the lamps appear to float lightly in the air with neutral white palettes emphasising their form and texture.
“We are proud to be the first British designers to work with Muuto,” says Hubert. “As a brand, they are aligned with our ambition to create simple and accessible design that can be owned by many and seamlessly integrated into the home. With Strand, we have created a collection of softly voluminous pendant lamps that exude gentleness and sensitivity.”
The collection will be launched at the Muuto space in Heal’s furniture store in Bloomsbury during London Design Festival. The installation, also designed by Layer, draws inspiration from the simplicity and materiality of the product, making the most of the light-filled space.
