WunderLocke unveils new suites

WunderLocke, the newly opened Munich aparthotel by Locke, has unveiled its new seventh floor Rooftop and Penthouse Suites designed by interior architects Holloway Li.

The 126m2 Penthouse Suite is anchored by a standalone bathtub, while the colour scheme combines natural earth tones and rich botanical greens, with biophilic insertions and organic materials. Munich-based multidisciplinary artist Monika Morito was also commissioned to paint a small mural in sunset tones. In addition, the suite boasts its own private terrace, complete with a jacuzzi configured to amplify the setting, while the 100m2 Two-Bedroom Penthouse Suite offers city views. Both contain separate living quarters, an eight-person dining table, and two king-size beds in two separate bedrooms. In signature Locke style, the suites include a fully-equipped kitchen with a microwave oven, dishwasher, washer/dryer and cooking gear.

“This was our first opportunity to design Penthouse Suites for Locke and we were spoiled by the panoramic views that the building afforded,” says Alex Holloway, co-founder and Creative Director of Holloway Li. “Our design scheme chimed with the overall concept for WunderLocke, both paying homage to the heritage of the host building by retaining the exposed concrete shell and using natural materials, as well as a thoughtful colour palette and greenery to provide a fitting counterpoint to the machine-age setting of the space. We hope the suites provide both a sense of renewal as well as a connection to the wonderful surrounding city.”

For the seventh-floor suites, Holloway Li mirrored the landscape of the alps in the distance to the lateral flow of the apartments. The 31m² Rooftop One Bedroom Open Plan Suites are complete with rooftop terraces, living spaces and fully equipped kitchens featuring dining tables and more.

In bringing the spaces to life, Holloway Li also worked with artist Claire de Quénetain to create bespoke fabrics for each of the external terrace loungers; her painterly illustrations take inspiration from natural settings and provide a counterpoint to the building’s industrial past.

Eric Jafari, Chief Development Officer and Creative Director at parent group Edyn, explains: “WunderLocke’s size and location allowed us to really expand on our suite offerings, providing a private sanctuary for our guests where they can enjoy an elevated experience with unrivalled views of the alps and city.”

WunderLocke opened in July 2022 and comprises 360 apartments, a co-working area, meeting and events spaces, as well as an outdoor heated swimming pool, sauna and workout studio. The F&B concept, titled Mural Farmhouse, includes five destinations spread across seven floors and was conceived by the founders of revered local Michelin-starred restaurant, Mural. An urban roof garden is also set to launch in Spring 2023.
