Wayfinder opens nature-inspired hotel in the Californian mountains
Dovetail + Co has launched the third outpost of its hospitality brand Wayfinder, this time located in California’s High Sierra region.
Wayfinder Bishop, an 87-room property, is steeped in the adventurous spirit of the Eastern Sierra. Designed in house at Dovetail + Co, led by Creative Director and interior designer Erin Weinstock, the hotel features interiors inspired by the natural color palette of the area – from vibrant reds, orange and yellow, to the crystal blue of mountain lakes and earth tones of evergreen trees.
The reception desk, hand-carved by local artisan Lance Stanislaw, welcomes guests with the addition of a hand-made cedar strip canoe suspended above. In guestrooms, cosy touches include custom Hawkins NY throw blankets and rustic furnishings, as well as vintage décor and art by local artisans.
Artwork displayed throughout the hotel’s public areas includes pieces by Karma Henry, Annie Cashner, Ron Luce, Lynn Marit Peterson and Galen Rowell, as well as memorabilia from local shops and flea markets, such as Mule Day prints and belt buckles.
Wayfinder Bishop features two dining venues: Whistling Trout, a cosy restaurant filled with patterned textile furnishings and vintage paintings, and a lobby-level bar and lounge serving drinks and light bites both indoors and outdoors. The space pays homage to the area’s Mule Days celebration – an annual festival of mule packing culture – with vintage saddlery, oil paintings and postcards.
Additional on-site amenities include riverfront seating with fire pits and expansive mountain views, an outdoor heated pool, hot tub, sauna and gift shop.
