Hilton has announced the debut of Waldorf Astoria in Japan, with the opening of Waldorf Astoria Osaka.
Located in the Umekita District, the 252-key hotel has been designed by André Fu to blend New York’s timeless legacy with the dynamic energy of Osaka. A thoughtful interfusion of Eastern and Western motifs brings Osaka to life through the lens of Art Deco aesthetics, echoing the legacy of the original Waldorf Astoria New York.
Occupying the top floors of the South Park Tower skyscraper at Grand Green Osaka, each room – including two 146m² penthouse suites and the 193m² Presidential Suite – sits between the 31st and 38th floors, offering 360-degree views spanning from Osaka Bay to the Hyogo mountaintops.
Four F&B concepts find home on site, offering an eclectic mix of culinary experiences. A hallmark of the brand, the Peacock Alley lounge mirrors the spirit and grandeur of the New York flagship while embracing a distinctively Japanese sensibility.
An intimate cocktail bar revealing the romance of the golden age of jazz, Canes & Tales honours Waldorf Astoria’s rich cocktail heritage through a curated selection from the Waldorf Astoria Bar Book. Other venues take the form of Jolie Brasserie, an elegant French brasserie, and Tsukimi, which celebrates the art of Japanese dining.
Elsewhere, 33,000m² of event spaces are on offer, including an intimate chapel embodying quiet luxury.
The hotel’s spa and wellness experiences meanwhile include a serene indoor pool and rejuvenating thermal experiences, drawing inspiration from Japanese healing traditions.
“Japan is unquestionably one of the world’s most compelling and sophisticated destinations,” says Alan Watts, President, Asia Pacific at Hilton. “As Hilton celebrates more than 60 years of legacy in this remarkable country, we are proud to debut our iconic Waldorf Astoria brand in Osaka and elevate the benchmark of luxury in this cosmopolitan city. This is a historic year for the brand worldwide, as we mark the growth of luxury travel here in Asia Pacific and set the course to more than double our Waldorf Astoria portfolio in this region over the next two years.”
Takaaki Nitanai, President of ORIX Hotel Management Corporation, adds: “The opening of Waldorf Astoria Osaka is an integral part of the Umekita 2nd Project, contributing to the development and revitalisation of Osaka, and elevating the wider Kansai region. Together with Canopy by Hilton Osaka Umeda – which opened at Grand Green Osaka last September – both hotels allow domestic and international travellers to fully immerse in the vibrancy of this dynamic city.”
