Vipp Farmhouse arrives in Lolland, Denmark
Nestled in a forest on the Danish island of Lolland’s 1,400-acre Søllestedgaard estate, Vipp Farmhouse is a traditional farmhouse that has found a new purpose as the fourth hotel from Scandinavian brand Vipp.
Adding a farm-life feel to its portfolio, the 88m² residence comprises three bedrooms, a bathroom and a combined kitchen and living space. Commissioned by Vipp and estate owner Ulrik Th. Jørgensen, designer Julie Cloos Mølsgaard has combined historical charm with modern convenience and curious art finds.
Checking into this former gardener’s residence is like stepping back in time. While the architectural shell is a reminiscence of when it was originally constructed in 1775 – think whitewashed facades topped with a thatched roof – the newly furbished interior ushers in the present day of Scandinavian minimalism.
“During lockdown we have rediscovered nature and the charm of the Danish countryside, and now we share it with our guests,” says Jette Egelund, 2nd generation owner of Vipp. “Our fourth hotel destination offers a convenient escape to nature. A taste of agricultural life, but one where the cow has already been milked.”
While nature is omnipresent at Vipp Farmhouse, so is history. The neighbouring estate Søllestedgaard houses a manor dating back to 1800 and boasts the largest private greenery in Denmark, named ‘Den Grønne Verden’ or ‘The Green World’. Fresh produce can also be enjoyed at the property’s on-site restaurant, Spiseriet.
“Our old horse stable has been transformed into a restaurant and shop where guests can buy or taste our variety of 250 greens cultivated on the fields next door,” says Jørgensen. And for those who prefer to cook themselves, seasonal picks from across the estate can be found in the Vipp kitchen at the farmhouse.
