VIDEO: How At Six transformed a brutalist bank into a luxury hotel
In the second AHEAD Europe video by Sleeper’s creative partner Dezeen, Universal Design Studio’s Hannah Carter Owers discusses the design of Nordic Hotels & Resorts’ At Six, the art-centred Stockholm project which claimed the Guestrooms and Urban Hotel – Conversion awards at this year’s ceremony.
Situated on Stockholm’s Brunkebergstorg Square, the property is home to one of the continent’s most significant hotel art collections, curated by Sune Nordgren, Founding Director of the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo, Norway.
Located in a former Brutalist bank, the 343-key hotel is characterised by its distinctive original granite columns and bronze anodised aluminium cladding, with its monochrome-inspired interiors channelling contemporary luxury with a twist.
“The aim with At Six was to create Scandinavia’s best luxury hotel in a way that felt authentic and at home in a brutalist building,” Owers, co-Director of Universal Design Studio, explains.
Judges praised At Six’s clever use of space and the functional layout within guestrooms, whilst further noting that the entire project feels “truly coherent.”
