Montara Hospitality Group has enlisted a team of award-winning design firms for upcoming wellness resort Tri Vananda in Phuket, Thailand.
Set to open in 2022, Tri Vananda will comprise three main zones spread across 232 acres of land: a wellness residential community featuring 263 villas, a comprehensive medical and wellness centre specialising in integrative and functional medicine and cognitive wellbeing, as well as a wetland nature reserve.
Montara Hospitality has enlisted three thai firms – Habita Architects, P49 Deesign and Arsomsilp Community and Environmental Architect – to design the residential community and resort under the technical guidance of Susan Harmsworth and Under a Tree. Meanwhile, the interior design concept for the community house will be realised by AvroKO.
Each of the firms’ strategies are implemented around four core pillars: multigenerational living; evidence-based functional and integrative medicine and nutrition; cognitive health and mindfulness and biophilic design. Echoing Montrara Hospitality’s commitment to sustainability, all firms involved will keep their environmental impact to a minimum with efforts to accommodate the site’s surrounding nature, building around existing trees and lakes to preserve their natural placement.
Situated in the middle of two lakes and enveloped in lush greenery, the circular-shaped reception represents enso, or ‘circle’ in Japanese, a symbol strongly associated with enlightenment.
Tri Vananda’s residential villas – a series of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom configurations ranging from 105 to 750 square metres, are minimalist dwellings unfettered from nature. Conceived by Habita Architects and Arsomsilp Community and Environmental Architect, the linear simplicity of each villa’s architecture lends itself to the warm, balanced interiors by P49 Deesign.
The interiors take an organic modernist approach with a blend of earth tones and materials. The villas are subject to undulating natural light and trees blanketing the property, while a material palette of natural and engineered woods gives a refined feel.
Foremost among its key wellness initiatives, Tri Vananda is dedicated to improving and protecting members’ quality of sleep – the interiors of the residential villas reflect this mission. Wellness design installations will include: a proprietary circadian lighting system; acoustic insulation; WiFi blockers and electromagnetic shielding; aromatherapy and air quality monitoring. These wellness design tools not only protect sleep quality but also introduce an innovative means of enhancing the home by merging science and design.
Complementing the predominantly wooden interior scheme are tropical accents that convey warmth, such as woven rattan details, natural wood coffee tables, and woven leather sofas. The bathrooms, meanwhile, are judiciously fused with opulent surfaces. Various types of marble are employed for the floors, walls and countertops, with gradient frosted glass for the showers.
Outside the villas, clear glass railings on upper floors delineate the home from the outdoors without creating visual separation, promoting a sense of being at home with nature.
Elsewhere, the wellness resort will comprise 70 resort villas with one to two bedrooms. Situated in the heart of the site, the resort encompasses scenic views of the mountain, lakes and tropical forests, as well as the wetland nature reserve.
Natural materials such as stone and wood will be employed throughout the resort, with wall finishings emulating hues of sand and soil found onside. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows are designed to create a link with nature and facilitate a modern oasis.
Encircled by a sand dune, the community house will feature a bar and lounge, gym, Olympic-sized swimming pool, community garden, outdoor playground and function areas.
A mindfulness centre on the lake will have an indoor hall and outdoor areas for meditation. Also situated on the lake is an extensive spa with separate-sex thermal rooms, relaxation areas and private spa suites. A fitness centre will house a 50-metre swimming pool, sauna, juice bar and lake pier for recreational water sports.
Completing Tri Vananda’s offering is the project’s signature restaurant concept which will source ingredients locally through the development’s own organic farm. The restaurant will be helmed by Montara Hospitality’s award-winning culinary team which earned Phuket’s first and only Michelin star through PRU restaurant at Trisara.
