Tivoli Hotels & Resorts to debut in the Netherlands
Tivoli Hotels & Resorts will continue its expansion in Europe with a debut in the Netherlands in March 2023.
Located along the River Amstel, the historical property is a recognised city landmark that dates back to the 16th century. The hotel started as the former Kloveniersdoelen, a place where military aristocrats practiced their skills, as well as holding gatherings and banquets. Evoking a time where hotel stays were seen as grand experiences, the classical building is thought to have housed Amsterdam’s oldest hotel.
Upon its opening in March, Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam will comprise 81 keys in categories ranging from superior rooms to suites, all with their own unique stories and history. The guestrooms are elegantly decorated and offer views over the canal.
The lounge and bar area will serve an impressive selection of local gins and liqueurs. Due to the connection of the hotel to the legendary Dutch painter, Rembrandt Van Rijn, the herbs and essences of his time will be the stars of the Omber restaurant’s new menu, where the chef will elevate the dishes to an artistic level.
One of the Netherlands’ most famous sons, Rembrandt Van Rijn, was one of the hotel neighbours and his magnum opus, The Night Watch, originally hung in the property. With a strong link to both gastronomy and art, a new artistic experience will be created in cooperation with a Rembrandt expert and Rembrandt House Museum.
“We are delighted to soon become the newest member of the Tivoli brand,” says Ludo de Jong, General Manager of Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam. “The historic hotel will be a perfect addition to the Tivoli portfolio, a property where the brand’s savoir-faire will combine with local Amsterdam touches, in terms of sights, experiences and cuisine.”
Currently with a portfolio of 16 properties in four countries – Portugal, Brazil, Qatar and China – Tivoli Hotels & Resorts is owned by Minor Hotels and managed by NH Hotel Group Europe. With the opening of the Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam Hotel, the brand will expand its portfolio, bringing some of its cosmopolitan atmosphere and style to the Dutch market.
With a journey that dates back to 1933 in Lisbon, Tivoli will arrive in Amsterdam the month of the brand’s 90th anniversary. This will also be the year that Tivoli will accelerate its growth in Europe, adding a property in Spain, another in Portugal and now also the Netherlands, with more to come in other European destinations.
