Third Hotel Indigo to open in Berlin

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced the signing of Hotel Indigo Berlin City – East Side, Germany.

The newbuild hotel is owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and will operate under a franchise agreement with multiple development agreement partner Tristar Hotel Group. Set to open during the autumn of 2017, the property will feature 119 rooms, a gym, a restaurant, and a rooftop bar with an outdoor terrace.

Hotel Indigo Berlin City – East Side will be located in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, a creative hub of Berlin, and within Mercedes Platz, a complex located opposite the Mercedes Benz Arena set to open in 2018. Also owned by AEG, it will feature numerous restaurants and bars, a 4,000 capacity event hall and a cinema, with visitor numbers projected to reach 20 million annually. IHG’s new development will subsequently be at the heart of a dynamically growing urban quarter situated along the East Side Gallery and the remains of the Berlin wall.

René Schappner, Director of Development, Germany, IHG says: “The signing of this hotel emphasises IHG’s position as a clear market leader in the boutique hotel segment. It’s fantastic to be expanding our Hotel Indigo brand in Berlin; a city with numerous vibrant and distinct neighbourhoods which make perfect hosts for this brand.  We’re also delighted to be signing our eighth deal as part of a multiple development agreement with Tristar and look forward, as always, to working with them on this exciting project.”

Michael Kötter, Vice President Real Estate & Development, AEG, adds: “It was clear from day one that a boutique hotel was the smart choice for this location. IHG and Tristar are absolutely the right partners for the project and we’re delighted to be working with them both. With Tristar’s successful track record in hotel operations and the quality Hotel Indigo brand in place, this hotel will further strengthen the attractiveness of Mercedes Platz.”
