The Place Firenze unveils renovations by Luigi Fragola Architects
The Place Firenze, a luxury hotel in the heart of Florence, has opened its doors following renovation by Luigi Fragola Architects.
The reimagined property – part of The Hospitality Experience – encompasses 20 rooms and suites, and a variety of common areas that immerse guests in the local Florentine community. Through its harmonious blend of modern and historical design elements, steeped in the art of Italian hospitality, The Place Firenze reflects the timeless beauty of Florence.
The property’s design was inspired by the work of Italian Renaissance architect Leon Battista Alberti, known for his work on the Santa Maria Novella church, which sits directly across from the hotel. Drawing inspiration from the church’s façade, vibrant colour palette and historical location, Fragola sought to transform the property into an elegant, contemporary respite that simultaneously evokes a sense of home. Inspired by the aesthetics of Florentine art and architecture, the hotel is home to a curated selection of paintings and sculptures crafted by local artisans.
The Fireplace, Studiolo and Glass Yard all serve as public spaces within which guests can recline. Each space employs a calming colour palette of greens and creams alongside tactile materials and custom furnishings. Set in the heart of the property, the Glass Yard features a pitched atrium that evokes the feel of a greenhouse and fills the space with natural light. The room includes foliage compositions and wild plants, alongside works of Florentine artists such as Lorenzo Brinati.
Heritage architecture and residential comfort define The Place Firenze’s eight suites and 12 guestrooms, which are adorned with elegant boiseries and bespoke textiles by Rubelli, inspired by the curves of the Piazza Santa Maria Novella.
The culinary program features an artisanal Tuscan restaurant with an elegant outdoor terrace and an intimate cocktail lounge. Deeply rooted in Tuscan tradition, the hotel’s culinary offerings celebrate the region’s gastronomy with distinctive seasonal menus created by Chef Asso Migliore, complimented by a mixology program by Food & Beverage Manager, Zaccaria Medda. The hotel’s rooftop the Alcova meanwhile provides an open-air oasis for dining and libations overlooking Florence’s cityscape.
