The Peninsula Chicago unveils redesign
The Peninsula Chicago has revealed plans for a comprehensive redesign of 331 of their 339 guestrooms, to be completed by April 2016.
The main focus of the project is to introduce the brand’s advanced guestroom technology throughout the hotel. New services will include 24-hour check-in and the ability to operate guestroom facilities in eleven different languages at the touch of a button. These features, as well as the fully customised bedside and desk tablets, demonstrate the motivation behind the redesign, which endeavours to personalise the hotel experience in new ways. Lighting, temperature controls, restaurant menus, city information and weather updates are all to be integrated into the room with touchscreen remotes and LED wall panels. New technology has also been introduced in the form of PressReader, which features complimentary access to more than 2,000 publications, and PenCities, an online city guide.
The interiors, designed by Bill Rooney, will draw influence from both the French Deco style of the hotel’s public spaces and luxury yachts. Working in cream leather, blue textiles and Macassar wood, the finishing details will include in-built desks and intimate dining tables, as well as bespoke chinaware by French heritage company Bernadaud.
The 74 newly renovated suites at The Peninsula Chicago will showcase unique elements influenced by Chicago’s artistic culture. Each suite features a hand-embroidered silk art wall with a chrysanthemum theme, along with hand-painted artisan glass elements. The floral design for the glass wall, created by artist Michael Glickman, was inspired by the Orchid; one of the four noble flowers of Asian Art, the Orchid pattern is intended to reflect The Peninsula brand’s Asian heritage.
