The Hoxton Southwark opens its doors

Marking the brand’s third hotel in London and the eighth in its portfolio, The Hoxton Southwark has opened its doors.

Occupying a building designed by Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, the property comprises 192 guestrooms in five different categories: Shoebox, Snug, Cosy, Roomy and Biggy. The interiors, created by Ennismore Design Studio, incorporate natural light and channel an industrial aesthetic influenced by the neighbourhood’s trading history. Exposed brick walls and concrete ceilings are softened using dynamic accents such as velvet red headboards, comfortable lounge chairs and handmade glassware, whilst brass lighting provided by Chelsom echoes the factory-inspired interiors. Other features in the rooms include artworks curated by Jealousy Gallery and bespoke book selections provided by Hox Friends – a group of hand-picked locals who curate the hotel bookshelves.

A range of antique and bespoke furniture from British manufacturers can be found throughout the hotel. The lobby sees a mix of seating, cosy corners, bar stools and shared working tables, all of which create open and inclusive spaces. The communal areas, meanwhile, incorporate a range of greenery and an art collection selected in collaboration with Project on Walls. The lobby’s line drawings and botanical art refer to Southwark’s legacy in hops trading.

Ennismore’s new shared workspace concept Working From_, set to open in January 2020, will occupy six floors of the building with its own entrance at street level. Developed as an extension of The Hoxton’s lobbies, which have provided shared working spaces since 2006, Working From_ will include: over 750 desks, open and private studios, five meeting rooms, a wellness studio, a winter garden and quiet booths.

Situated on the hotel’s ground floor and serving food across the restaurant, lobby and bar, Albie is an all-day neighbourhood dining destination with a French and Italian Riviera-inspired menu. The drinks offerings include low-ABV spirits, virgin cocktails, adaptogen tonics and biodynamic wines alongside classic cocktails and wines. The rooftop restaurant Seabird will open on the 14th floor later in September.

“The growth of co-working and co-living are testament to the fact that property is going through a massive shift in becoming an active rather than passive resource and the Hoxton Southwark is a new example of this trend in the hospitality sector,” says Alex Lifschutz, Founding Director of Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands. “At this Hoxton you will be able to enjoy fine hotel rooms or (soon) co-working office space with outstanding views across the South Bank and also a cocktail of other offers from events and happenings, private dining and conferences, food and drink at ground or rooftop.”
