The Hoxton Amsterdam Guestroom

The Hoxton widening Amsterdam offering

The Hoxton will be opening a second set of doors in Amsterdam, taking up residence in a landmark originally built by the Royal Dutch Lloyd Shipping Company in 1921. Set for opening in August 2023, the 136-room property will be the brand’s second in Amsterdam, with designs once more by Ennismore’s AIME Studios in collaboration with local design firm Nicemakers.

The two studios have collaborated to create a property that will honour the building’s storied past, while embracing the vibrancy and youthful energy that defines the Eastern Docklands corner of the city. The architectural heritage of the 1920s structure has been embraced and elevated, with elements such as stained-glass windows, timber panelling and original tiling inspired by the brick expressionist movement, and uplifted by bold tones and oversized, graphical patterns.

The bold design concept is continued throughout guestrooms, where a warm palette of corals, reds and ochres is juxtaposed against cool blues and greys – a playful nod to Lloyd’s shipping connections. The unique footprint of the building has allowed for an array of new room concepts, including the Tower Room – with its spiral staircase and waterfront views – and the split-level Studio Mezzanine.

Vintage furniture sourced from Northern Europe and statement lighting fixtures such as the seven glass chandeliers in the hotel’s brasserie hark back to the glamour of the property’s Art Deco roots, while artwork throughout the hotel has been curated by neighbouring gallery Bisou, offering a contrasting shot of modernity.

The Hoxton will be bringing two F&B concepts to the neighbourhood: Breman Brasserie, a comfort-driven spot serving European and South American cuisine, and standalone cocktail bar Barbue. Situated in the building’s original ticket office, Barbue will be influenced by golden age Argentina, serving up classic cocktails with a twist.
