The Fifth Avenue Hotel Guestroom

The Fifth Avenue Hotel to open in October 2023

The Fifth Avenue Hotel will open its doors to the public in October 2023 on the northwest corner of its namesake street.

Located in New York’s NoMad neighbourhood, the hotel spreads across historic landmark The Mansion, and a new 24-storey glass tower. The mansion, which was once the home of Charlotte Goodridge, a leading figure in Manhattan’s Gilded Age society, was sold in 1907 and will be reopening following a seven-year renovation process.

The new hotel’s interiors have been designed by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, who worked closely with Alex Ohebshalom to ensure the design was inspired by the history of The Mansion. Through the design of The Fifth Avenue Hotel, Brudnizki pays homage to the legacy and lifestyle of those who once resided on Fifth Avenue, offering a distinctly residential vision that immerses guests in old-world glamour.

Inside, the collaborative design scheme centres around three main themes. “The Collector” sees an eclectic collection of objects, art and furnishings come together to create a space resembling a private home; “looking back in order to look forward” turns classical detailing into a modern form; and “romanticism” alludes to how the hotel has been crafted as a return to a bygone era of glamour, elegance and sophistication.

The Fifth Avenue Hotel Restaurant

Design highlights across The Fifth Avenue Hotel include a sweeping marble lobby, lined with antique mirror-panelled walls and accessorised with bookcases that resemble traditional black lacquered Chinese cabinets from the 19th century. Other striking design features take the form of gilded detailing and brass accents, Murano glass chandeliers, and Storyboard corridors decorated in ikat fabrics. The hotel also houses a library, which draws inspiration from the residential designs of Italian villas, and The Terrace, a rarity in Manhattan, which resembles a verdant, tumbling English Garden.

The Fifth Avenue Hotel will feature an array of restaurants and bars under the culinary direction of Chef Andrew Carmellini. Outlets include the hotel’s destination signature restaurant, The Study, and an intimate Portrait Bar, among others. The Fifth Avenue’s Wine Vault will provide the ideal setting for an intimate dinner, while The Ballroom, reminiscent of the Gilded Age, offers 2,800ft² of event space, complete with original architectural detailing, coffered ceilings and a colour palette of blue and gold accents.
