Amanda Lindroth celebrates coastal living at The Dunlin, Auberge Resorts Collection
The Dunlin, Auberge Resorts Collection has opened its doors, with interiors that embody coastal living in Charleston’s Sea Islands.
Named after a local shorebird, the hotel finds home within the 2,000-acre waterfront community of Kiawah River. Architect Robert Glazier was tasked with harmoniously integrating a modern take on a Southern summer home into the ecosystem of the river. Marrying whimsical Southern style with modern coastal living, the resort carefully respects both Sea Island’s architectural character – generous porches, gabled roofs and open space preservation – with the site’s natural features.
Classic, island-style interiors by Amanda Lindroth feature sunny batik prints and soothing undertones reminiscent of the original Sea Island homes. The property’s 72 guestrooms and suites feature a cottage-inspired, Lowcountry aesthetic with materials such as wicker, wood and textured linen combined with white-washed tones, mint-green accents and honey oak floors. Scalloped valences frame double doors that open to outdoor porches, facilitating a seamless transition from the room to riverfront views.
The resort also features 19 privately-owned Dunlin branded residences, set to debut for pre-sale in 2024.
“When we were asked to work with Auberge Resorts Collection to design The Dunlin, it was a bit of a dream come true for me and my team,” says Amanda Lindroth. “Set on Kiawah River, the location is a magical, preserved estuary with 100-year-old trees and full-on nature. In collaboration with the Auberge creative team, The Beach Company and the architects, we dreamt of a place inspired by the most beloved summer houses of another era. The result is a timeless place for families to enjoy this untouched setting in a place created to fit into but not grab attention away from the natural beauty.”
As well as a spa and event spaces, the property’s amenities include F&B venues celebrating soulful Southern traditions, such as a signature restaurant, riverside lounge bar and poolside dining space. Swathed in Lindroth’s signature green – which pops up across the entire property, from textiles and fixtures, to wallcoverings – the property’s public spaces showcase wood-clad walls and light cotton and linen textiles that sway with the breeze.
“We are thrilled to welcome guests to discover the natural wonderland of the Sea Islands as we open our doors at The Dunlin,” says Michael DeCanio, General Manager of The Dunlin. “The timeless beauty and peace of life on the river are showcased through incredible offerings that celebrate our lowcountry heritage and make The Dunlin unlike any other hospitality experience on the East Coast.”
