The Dorchester announces major renovation
As part of an ongoing investment programme, legendary London hotel The Dorchester will commence a comprehensive renovation from February 2022, with further details to be announced over the coming weeks.
The refurbishment will be the biggest since 1989 and will begin with the entrance to the hotel, The Promenade and The Bar at The Dorchester, as well as two guest floors, with the work scheduled for completion by September 2022. Two of the most renowned names in hospitality design have been appointed to transform the property; Pierre-Yves Rochon is reimagining the entrance, The Promenade and the new guestrooms and suites, while Martin Brudnizki Design Studio has been tasked with re-creating the bar.
ReardonSmith Architects are the Architects and Lead Designer on the project. The practice has been working closely with The Dorchester’s management team since June 2019 on a long-term design plan for the hotel and, in particular, on the detailed plan for Phase 1 of the programme. This includes a partial redesign by ReardonSmith of the arrival lobby to provide greater ingress of natural light and enhance the hotel’s street level presence. ReardonSmith has been responsible for the coordination of all consultants, documentation and local planning and listed building approvals for the iconic Grade-II listed building.
The Dorchester will remain open throughout the renovation process, with its afternoon tea – served in the Orchid Room – and a reinvigorated concept for the rooftop restaurant set to be launched next Spring.
As The Grill, Alain Ducasse and China Tang underwent refurbishments in the last few years, they will continue to operate as normal, as will The Dorchester Spa. The Ballroom, with its own entrance on Park Lane; the Penthouse & Pavilion rooms; and the Chef’s Table will also be available for corporate and social events.
