The Devlin arrives in Dublin’s Ranelagh district
The Dublin 6 suburb of Ranelagh has welcomed The Devlin, a 40-key boutique hotel featuring a rooftop restaurant, cocktail bar and a 42-seater subterranean cinema. With generous views of the surrounding mountains and sea, the property is home to a host of contemporary art, stimulating entertainment and experimental F&B.
Northern Irish fit-out specialist, Pure Fitout, are the craftsmen behind the project and have brought the hotel to life from scratch, sourcing and manufacturing nearly every feature – from the 40 ModPods, to the timber-panelled rooftop restaurant and bar, art deco cinema, bronze-finished Americana Bar and Moroccan tiled bathrooms.
The firm collaborated with owners Press Up Entertainment Group as well as native practices O’Donnell O’Neill Design Associates and Lawrence & Long Architects, who used innovative techniques and a meticulous attention to detail to complete the first newbuild for the Press Up group.
The hotel features handmade fittings built in-house by Puro Fitout’s workshop, as well as a handful of materials sourced from across the globe. Portuguese and Italian marble have been carved by the team to create the bars and table tops throughout Layla’s Rooftop Restaurant, Stella Theatre and the Americana Bar, while handpicked Moroccan tiling has been used to construct the rooftop pizza oven and line the bathrooms.
Five specialist timbers are used throughout the hotel, including Iroko panelling in the Americana Bar, pitch pine ceilings in Layla’s restaurant and walnut burl that has been applied to the free standing case goods throughout to add warmth and character.
Elsewhere, Pure Fitout crafted in-house metal fabricators with bespoke bronze and brass finishes to create bespoke features throughout each of the 40 bedrooms, as well as a bronze illuminated back bar that compliments the detailed leather interior of the Americana Bar.
Down below, the 1970s-inspired Stella Theatre encompasses a hand carved marble bar and classic mid-century furniture with lamps fitted beside each. A mirrored ceiling along the bedroom corridors and a unique, client commissioned carpet completes the hotel’s interior.
“We are delighted to have helped turn the vision behind The Devlin into reality,” says Ronan Higham, founder and Managing Director of Pure Fitout. “For a place like The Devlin, the warm and luxurious character comes from the bespoke one-of-a-kind statement features and careful selection of high quality materials.
“We’re proud to have helped create another amazing environment which is our first exclusive hotel fit out, with Press Up Entertainment Group. Having worked with Press Up on several projects since we were founded in 2015, we’re consistently appreciative of the vision and ground-breaking designs that we have the pleasure of bringing to life.”
