THDP unveils design for RG Naxos Hotel
Architectural and interiors firm, THDP, has completed its design of the RG Naxos Hotel, soon to become a Delta Hotel by Marriott.
Located on the East Coast of Sicily, overlooking the Mediterranean shores of Giardini Naxos, the project comprises 296 guestrooms, two penthouse suites, two restaurants, a pool terrace bar and a private beach.
The design concept draws upon the natural beauty of this unique setting, from its volcanic grey beaches to its sweeping blue seascapes, while traditional Sicilian folk art is featured throughout as a nod to the island’s rich history and culture.
Starting with the lobby, THDP led a complete refurbishment of the main public areas, including the guest check-in, the restaurants and the new pool terrace. Spanning over 700m², the vast lobby’s heavy baroque style was modernised to become a more inviting space typical of Sicilian hospitality, with the addition of the new lobby bar dividing the space to create a sense of intimacy.
Dark stone made from local lava by Nero Sicilia is featured throughout, blending with the natural colour palette seen through the floor-to-ceiling windows. This is contrasted by vibrant and decorative hand-painted tiles that adorn the walls, showcasing local artists and craftsmen.
The hotel’s F&B offering includes: Panarea, featuring focal buffet counters with open show-cooking; La Sciara, an Italian fine dining restaurant using locally-sourced ingredients such as fresh seafood; and Fluido, the terrace bar showcasing panoramic views of the Mediterranean from the infinity pool.
