Swire Hotels announces The Middle House

Swire Hotels has announced The Middle House, a key component of Shanghai’s forthcoming mixed-use development HKRI Taikoo Hui. Located on Nanjing Road, the hotel is a joint development between Swire Properties and HKR International. Set to be managed by Swire, The Middle House is scheduled to open at the end of 2017.

The Middle House is the fourth property under Swire Hotels’ The House Collective, and comprises 111 guestrooms alongside 102 serviced apartments. Milan-based Piero Lissoni is designing interiors, whilst Lissoni Associati and Wong & Ouyang will oversee the architecture.

Set in the heart of Shanghai’s commercial district, The Middle House works to the company’s philosophy of intimate luxury delivered with personalised service. The hotel will further offer an abundance of outdoor spaces and terraces, providing calm amidst a dynamic backdrop.

Swire Hotels will also continue its collaboration with New York-based chef Gray Kunz, with the hotel’s restaurant Café Gray Deluxe integral to how it will position itself within the Shanghai community. Inspired by dishes from the Hong Kong location, the restaurant will showcase Chef Gray’s international cuisine amidst Lissoni’s stylish interiors and terraces.

“Following the success of The House Collective in Hong Kong, Beijing and most recently in Chengdu, we are very excited to introduce The Middle House to Shanghai,” comments Brian Williams, Managing Director of Swire Hotels. “Our House hotels are each uniquely imagined, and are specially designed for guests who seek a different, intimate and personalised experience.”

The name ‘The Middle House’ suggests a close connection to the other hotels within The House Collective, with each having its own distinctive design collaboration and intent. The presence of ‘Middle’ is a nod to the hotel’s location – Dazhongli, one of Shanghai’s historic neighbourhoods, with the ‘Zhong’ in Dazhongli a reference to ‘central’ in Chinese.
