Suvretta House reopens for winter
The doors of Switzerland’s 181-key Suvretta House will reopen for the winter season, marking phase one in a new era for the property. The Alpine ski-in ski-out hotel will launch 23 new guestrooms this year as part of a staggered phase of refurbishment, which will see all guestrooms completely renovated by December 2018.
Set in a private estate against the beauty of the Engadine Valley, the heritage building will be given a refreshed interior scheme by UK designer Sue Freeman. Aiming to update spaces which have remained unchanged for 20 years, the redesign incorporates parquet flooring, hand crafted rugs, embroidered cushions, bespoke furniture, homely wallpapers, elegant colours and luxurious fabrics. Guestroom layouts will be re-conceptualised to maximise views of the surrounding lake, woodland and mountains.
Further, the hotel’s spa facilities, which include a 25-metre indoor swimming pool, outdoor whirlpool, sauna, steam bath, gym and extensive beauty and body treatments, will relaunch in 2018, following similar refurbishments. Chef Fabrizio Zanetti will continue to serve up market-fresh French cuisine at The Grand Restaurant and the hotel will retain ownership of the two nearby mountain restaurants Trutz and Chamanna.
