Starwood brand Aloft launches second UK hotel in Liverpool
Having lain derelict for 20 years, Aloft is breathing life into one of Liverpool’s Grade II listed buildings to create a modern, fresh and fun destination. The 110-year old building will retain much of the original Neo-Baroque architecture, with the interior transformed to offer cutting-edge design.
Aloft, the destination brand from Starwood Hotels & Resorts, was created to shake-up the traditional mid-market sector, delivering urban-influenced design and an energetic guest experience. The 116-key property will be situated on North John Street, near the shopping district, buzzing nightlife and the city’s galleries and museums.
Aloft Liverpool will feature the brand’s WXYZ bar with signature cocktails and regular DJ nights, 24-hour grab-and-go food and beverage area re:fuel by Aloft, re:charge fitness centre and arf (Animals R Fun), an exclusive pet-friendly programme where pets can stay with an Aloft-branded bed, bowl and complimentary treats and toys.
Set to complete both the architecture and interior design, local firm Falconer Chester Hall Architects has designed a scheme to complement the heritage of the site, while providing a creative space for guests. “The Royal Insurance building is an important landmark at the heart of the city, with outstanding architectural and historical value. It has lain derelict for too long and we are determined to bring it back into meaningful use,” commented Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson. “It’s a great example of how we are working with the private sector to attract new investment, preserve our heritage and reduce the number of buildings at risk in our city, while boosting our hotels on offer.”
The hotel will be the fourth Aloft hotel to open in Europe, with five more slated to open in the next three years including Munich, St. Petersburg and London. The Aloft portfolio now includes almost 100 properties, spanning 14 countries since the brand launched in 2008.
