Stantec to design The Pointe, Nassau
Stantec in Miami has been selected to complete the architecture of $250m project The Pointe, a new, high-end waterfront destination in Nassau, The Bahamas.
The 910,000ft2 mixed-use project by developers Neworld One Bay Street, Ltd., a subsidiary company of China Construction America, will include residences, hotel, retail, entertainment, office space, restaurants, marina, and parking garage. The Pointe, which broke ground in August, is located in downtown Nassau near the cruise ship port.
“We are thrilled that our first endeavour in the Caribbean is with The Pointe, the six-acre development that is destined to be a landmark in downtown Nassau, providing the area with much needed services and amenities,” said architect Jon Cardello, senior principal, Stantec. “We look forward to continuing to expand Stantec’s luxury residential portfolio outside of the US.”
The oceanfront 200-room hotel will include music and entertainment venues and retail. The open-air shopping destination will be surrounded by tropical foliage and will have high-end designer shops, local Bahamian stores, over a dozen of dining options, movie theatre, nightclub, bowling alley and a beach bar with cabanas.
Stantec took design inspiration for the eight-storey condo building from the abstract, curved forms and lines of the cruise ships that are in view from the site. Due to the geometry of the building, the 110 residential units will have views of the ocean and the iconic Nassau lighthouse. The design respects the existing neighbouring buildings, but introduces a new, modern vision to the island. A rooftop deck will feature an infinity edge pool, bar and poolside cabanas surrounded by lush tropical landscaping.
Situated across from the residences, the parking complex will house not only parking, but also retail on the bottom level and an office component which spans all levels. The design will emulate the colony style of the British Colonial Hilton hotel that is directly adjacent to the complex but with modern elements on the ocean side to tie back into the retail and hotel concepts.
An outdoor plaza connects the project’s three different complexes. A winding boardwalk links to a floating restaurant and the James Bond-themed bar Double O’s in the middle of the ocean. The boardwalk will give cruise ship passengers access from the port to The Pointe restaurants, shops and entertainment areas.
The Pointe is scheduled to be completed in 2017.
