Soho House opens first Southeast Asian property
Soho House has made its Southeast Asian debut with Soho House Bangkok. Located within the building of the former Eugenia Hotel, the house features interiors by Soho House Design that reflect the city’s rich local crafts.
Ample use of silk fabrics, local ceramic works, native wood joinery and Thai architectural details can be found throughout the hotel’s spaces, while tropical patterns and local plants add to the feeling of a calming sanctuary amidst the buzz of the city.
Upon entering the hotel, a marble-topped desk greets members at reception, with bespoke overhanging lights made from local ceramics. The cosy lobby features textured curtain details and a patterned reclaimed wood floor that extends into an atrium – a Southeast Asian architectural feature. On the ceiling of the atrium is a hand-painted fresco by a Thai artist, setting the tone for the native art that is displayed across the house.
The Soho House Bangkok art collection comprises artists born, based, or trained in Thailand. Throughout the property, newly emerging talents and museum-level creatives alike provide insight into the contemporary Thai art scene.
Moving through the atrium, guests enter a bright and airy Garden Bar, a space with exposed beam ceilings and a centrepiece wood and leather bar. Botanical wall motifs, green tones and live tropical plants create a relaxed venue that juxtaposes with Garden Bar’s alternative, Lounge Bar – characterised by moody lighting, cracked eggshell tables and silk craft walls.
Both bars open out onto the pool and garden, Soho House Bangkok’s centrepiece, comprising lush greenery and a chequerboard marble floor that extends into a 12-metre pool. The garden’s landscaping blends old trees from the property with newly added local plants to create a hidden sanctuary, complete with custom fabric daybeds.
Up on the second floor, House Kitchen offers a refined dining experience, complete with outdoor terrace. Tropical details continue with large ceiling fans, soft rattan furniture and a rattan awning over the terrace. Connected to House Kitchen are two rooms designed for members to enjoy private dining.
The third floor houses a blue-toned lounge with a painted glass ceiling and ceramic feature bar with a colourful marble top. The bar leads into an events room that dons a gathered silk ceiling and custom fabric walls depicting the Thai landscape. Furnished with loose banquette seating and low lounge tables facing a stage, the space is set to be a destination for live events.
“I have wanted to expand Soho House in Southeast Asia for a long time so this is an exciting moment for me and our members everywhere,” says founder and CEO Nick Jones. “To have a truly diverse and inclusive global membership, we need to represent cultures and creative communities from all parts of the world. Bangkok has such a vibrant and progressive energy, full of Thai warmth and kindness, and I can’t wait to welcome members from the city into our new house.”
