Soho House lands in Italy

Soho House Rome has opened its doors in the heart of San Lorenzo, the city’s artistic quarter, marking the brand’s Italian debut.

Spread across 10 storeys, the hotel offers 49 guestrooms and 20 long-stay apartments, each with their own balcony providing views of the capital.

Designed by the brand’s in-house team, the property features an eye-catching façade clad in terracotta travertine and plaster, complemented by sleek Crittall windows. Inside, interiors are typical of the brand’s style, yet with an Italian twist showcasing local artists and craftsmanship.

The ground floor is a social space inspired by Italian markets, featuring a wrap-around counter made from locally-sourced marble, stretching from the reception to a deli bar. The wall is adorned with art exploring the theme of saints and sinners, ranging from Maradonna to Mary Magdalene, by renowned Italian artists from Soho House’s creative community including Gabriele de Santis and Marta Mancini.

Elsewhere, the guestrooms feature classic Roman Graniglia flooring and stucco rendered walls, with pieces created by native designers: sliding wall hangings by Sardinian weaver Mariantonia Urru disguise TVs, while hand-painted ceramic lamps by designer Bitossi feature on bedside tables. In the long-stay apartments, the living areas are furnished with pieces from local vintage markets, in addition to bespoke pieces inspired by classic Roman design.

The rooftop area, due to open in early 2022, features an infinity pool and the first of the brand’s Cecconi’s restaurants to be based in Italy itself. The stone flooring is in a traditional Palladiana pattern, while the furniture is upholstered in Italy’s burgundy and green with a lemon tree centrepiece.

As well as the rooftop, the hotel is also set to open a two-floor wellness spa featuring state-of-the-art laser and cryotherapy treatments, a fitness centre with two yoga studios and a 42-seat cinema scheduled for next year.
