Shepherd Construction announce 93-key hotel as part of Spring Mews development

Work has started on the 19,165m2 Spring Mews development on Glasshouse Walk, which forms a major tranche of the transformation of Vauxhall into a sustainable, vibrant neighbourhood.

During the 72-week programme, Shepherd will construct accommodation for 400 students that will relieve the pressure on local housing stock, a 93-bed hotel, and a number of small office units. At the heart of the new development will be a bespoke new Vauxhall Gardens community centre housing the arts, business, social and religious facilities.

The car-free development has been designed to meet a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating.

Mark Tant, Shepherd Construction’s regional Managing Director comments: “We are delighted to have been awarded such a fantastic well-designed project that will go a long way to transforming the Vauxhall area into a safe, lively environment for work, leisure and study.

“The win underlines our expertise in delivering sustainable, cost effective solutions for complex projects and our close partnership working, not only with the development team, but the local community as a whole.”

During the tender stage Shepherd turned to sister division Portakabin to create a student accommodation bedroom that enabled the client to envisage just how the completed development would look.

Simon Wigzell, CLS’s Head of UK Property commented: “We are looking forward to working with Shepherd in delivering such a key regeneration project in Vauxhall, creating new jobs, a safer neighbourhood and supporting local businesses.”

This latest project win boosts Shepherd’s order book in London to £140 million.
