Sandals Resorts International has announced that Sandals Dunn’s River will begin welcoming guests once more in May 2023, after a full redesign and renovation. The new 260-room resort has been redesigned to embrace the essence of Jamaica and its winding rivers, lush forests and banyan trees.

Originally designed by architect Morris Lapidus in the 1950’s and ‘60s, the hotel was at one point Jamaica’s largest hotel. Best known for his Neo-Baroque ‘Miami Modern’ hotels, the architect’s legacy is present in the redesigned property, most notably through the naming of one of the hotel’s bars – The Lapidus Lounge.

An array of the resort’s suites feature private soaking tubs and spacious balconies directly overlooking the ocean. All water features – including five swimming pools and the Red Lane Spa – will be sourced from the nearby natural reserves of the iconic Dunn’s River Falls, while the redesigned hotel will also boast Jamaica’s largest pool.

“This was an extraordinary project and the last one I worked on with our founder and my late father as his final masterpiece,” explains Adam Stewart, Executive Chairman of Sandals Resorts International. “He handpicked this location more than three decades ago for its white-sand coastline, cool breeze, azure waters and its close proximity to the destination’s archetypical falls. It will not only serve to breathe new excitement into a corner of Jamaica loved and cherished by so many, but it will set a new standard of luxury for tourism right here in our backyard with a next-generation resort worthy of its nostalgic past.”
