Salt Hotels partners with Neri & Hu for Minneapolis debut
Salt Hotels – a collection of boutique properties in Los Angeles, Miami, Nantucket and the Hudson Valley – will debut its latest property, The West in Minneapolis next year.
The result of a collaboration between Minneapolis-based developer Commutator, Snow Kreilich Architects, Neri & Hu and Greiner Construction, the 123-room development integrates four historic buildings in the city’s North Loop. Inside, Neri & Hu’s scheme sees bespoke wooden cabinetry and furniture combined with clean lines, lush fabrics and specially commissioned art. Rooms will also feature exposed brick walls evoking the buildings’ 19th century pedigree.
The hotel’s lobby is housed in a former brass foundry and comprises communal workspaces, a fireside lounge, library and bar. The property will also feature a stone cellar cocktail bar, a rooftop bar with a terrace, an outdoor dining patio and six flexible event spaces.
Spearheading F&B meanwhile is local James Beard award-winning chef Tim McKee, whose restaurant will offer Basque-inspired food drawing from the cuisines of northern Spain, with a particular focus on San Sebastián, Bilbao and Pamplona. The menu is set to feature dishes primarily cooked over charcoal, with a strong emphasis on Basque Pintxos. McKee will also be launching an Eastern Mediterranean-inspired bakery with a wood fired oven, as well as operating the culinary offer for the hotel’s events and in-room programme.
“We’re eager to expand into this vibrant city and collaborate with these amazing and talented partners,” explains David Bowd, CEO of Salt Hotels. “I fell in love with Minneapolis the first time I visited. The people are incredible, and the beautiful architecture, along with its strong creative culture and appreciation for service and design – both cornerstones of Salt Hotels – solidified Minneapolis as Salt Hotels’ latest venture. We’re excited to be expanding here during a time when such transformational developments are taking place.”
Opening in late 2023, The West adds to Salt Hotels strong pipeline of openings, which also includes developments in Nantucket, Newport, Litchfield and Mexico.
