Rosewood Bangkok scheduled for 2017
This latest signing marks Rosewood’s ninth management agreement to be announced globally, and fourth this year in the Asia-Pacific region, heralding a period of accelerated growth for the group.
Rosewood Bangkok will be located in Bangkok’s central business district along Ploenchit Road, adjacent to Ploenchit Skytrain Station, to which it will be directly linked. The hotel will be an integral part of the luxury enclave encompassing several embassies and new residential towers, offices and upscale retail.
The 146-room, 33-storey property will feature two restaurants and bars, Rosewood’s luxurious signature Sense spa, a swimming pool and a fitness centre. Meeting facilities will include The Pavilion residential-style meeting and function space and the top-floor Sky Villa event venue, which will offer panoramic views of the capital. Spacious guestrooms will include 64m2 Pool Sky Villas with large terraces and private plunge pools.
Embracing the Rosewood brand’s A Sense of Place philosophy, New York-based architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, a consultant to the local design firm (Tandem Architects), will reference cultural touchstones to create a hotel that reflects Thailand’s rich heritage and customs. Two connecting high-rise structures will create a dynamic form inspired by the graceful hand movement of the wai – the simple but beautifully elegant Thai gesture of greeting and welcome, which ideally conveys Thai tradition and culture. In keeping with the tropical environment, an atrium complete with a lush, vertical garden will separate the two structures.
Rosewood Bangkok will be KPF’s first project in Thailand. The firm has designed some of the most iconic modern landmarks in the region and the world, including the International Commerce Centre in Hong Kong, Roppongi Hills in Tokyo, the Shanghai World Financial Centre, Lotte World Tower in Seoul, the Heron Tower in London and the renovation of the MoMA in New York.
“As one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, Bangkok is a key strategic location for Rosewood to further strengthen its foothold in Asia,” says Sonia Cheng, chief executive officer of Rosewood Hotel Group. “We are delighted to partner with RENDE and add Rosewood Bangkok to our acclaimed collection.”
“Rosewood and RENDE have a comparable philosophy when it comes to providing the best service available in the market, as well as the same vision in design, which has made this partnership naturally easy. We also share the ultimate goal of wanting to create one of the best hotels in Bangkok,” says Pintongta Shinawatra Kunakornwong, Chief Executive Officer of Rende.
“We look forward to working with Rosewood to create this very special property, which we believe will become one of the top luxury hotel choices for international travellers to Bangkok.”
