Rosewood announces first mainland Chinese resort

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has announced its first mainland Chinese resort, Rosewood Sanya on the island of Sanya. Comprising 246 ocean-facing guestrooms, 45 of which boast balcony plunge pools, the resort’s design incorporates wood, tribal totems and aquatic elements in keeping with the brand’s A Sense of Place philosophy.

Part of an integrated resort set within 40 acres of landscaped gardens around the Sanya Forum – the largest convention centre in Haitang Bay – the hotel’s 3,425m² of meeting space includes a 1,500m² pillar-less grand ballroom as well as six function spaces. Elsewhere, The Pavilion, a sophisticated residential-style venue, provides a spacious outdoor terrace with expansive sea views.

The project’s art programme, meanwhile, explores further the themes of nature, creativity and inspiration. In the arrival lobby guests are greeted by pieces by Carlos Arnaiz, Byun Dae-young, and Ding Hao, whilst the HAI infinity pool bar provides a backdrop to a two-metre high diving sculpture. Several others, including a wire-sculpture octopus and fish, a mahogany whale tail and a rattan-woven book installation expand on the themes.

Rosewood Sanya’s five restaurants and lounges feature a variety of local and international cuisines, including East Kitchen, set atop the 13th floor and serving up simple comfort food; The Lounge, providing a menu of specialty cocktails, rare wines and carefully sourced craft beers; the aforementioned HAI infinity pool bar with its panoramic views and signature drinks crafted by a resident mixologist; and The Fishmonger, opening in September, a market-style restaurant with open kitchen.

Guests are also encouraged to participate in the hotel’s A Sense of Taste programme and delve into Sanya’s rich culinary culture. The programme includes Epicurean Encounters, wherein guests are offered a private, guided tour and rare access to indigenous and authentic culinary experiences, as well as lessons on local fruits and vegetables in Da Mao village and dining under the stars.

Elsewhere, the hotel’s wellness offering comprises two double Sense treatment rooms, four single treatment rooms and a fully-equipped fitness studio. The 110m infinity-edge pool on the 13th floor offers sweeping South China Sea views, whilst an additional outdoor swimming pool and Breakers kids’ club further enhances the the offer.
