Room Mate Hotels, founded and chaired by Kike Sarasola, will open its first hotel in Ibiza in May.
Located near the island’s port in a well-known building previously occupied by the historic Hotel El Puerto, Room Mate Ángel will comprise 228 rooms and suites divided into eight categories, a rooftop terrace with views of the charming old town, a swimming pool, spa, piano-bar, restaurant-club and events room.
Its design will be led by José Manuel Fernández and Germán Álvarez of Cuarto Interior, whose warm interiors will feature white tones – traditional to the island – and lighting that changes the mood throughout the day.
“As an ambassador of the island, for me it is a dream to finally have a hotel in Ibiza and that it is precisely with this project,” says Kike Sarasola, founder and President of Room Mate Group. “The Hotel El Puerto has been iconic and together with my friends José Manuel and Germán of Cuarto Interior, we want it to be a new meeting point for Ibicencos and lovers of the island this coming summer. Also, I am especially excited to name it Ángel as a tribute to Ángel Nieto, who has been an inspiration for our country and for me.”
The hotel’s piano-bar and restaurant-club will be managed by one of main F&B groups in Ibiza, while a 500m2 rooftop venue will be bathed in a monochrome sand and grey palette. The latter will take on a boho-chic aesthetic and bring together natural materials such as wicker, wood and linen. It is also crowned by an outdoor pool featuring nets reminiscent of the catamarans which moor in the port just a few metres away.
Fernández and Álvarez add: “We are delighted to start this adventure, after having worked with Kike at Room Mate Gorka in San Sebastián and Room Mate Leo in Granada. We identify closely with the brand’s values and fully share its philosophy and style, all the more so if it is at our favourite vacation destination!”
The property joins the upcoming opening of Room Mate Olivia in Mallorca and the expansion of Granada’s Room Mate Leo in reinforcing the group’s commitment to Spain, while across the border in Portugal it is set to open sites in both Lisbon and Porto. A new property in Rome has also brought its Italian portfolio to four.
