Retro-futuristic motor hotel reopening on Route 66
Americana Motor Hotel is set for reopening following extensive renovation and rebrand by Practice Hospitality. Located along Route 66 in Flagstaff Arizona – the world’s first ‘Dark Sky’ city – the hotel will seek to reimagine the classic roadside retreat.
Originally built in 1962, the 89-room property has been reinvented with a retro-futuristic design. With Andrew Alford at the helm – former Chief Creative Officer of Graduate Hotels – the reimagined Americana Motor Hotel draws inspiration from the region’s deep ties to astronomy, its surrounding nature and an idyllic yet nostalgic vision of the future.
Designs are a vibrant celebration of utopian optimism, with colourful touches across geometric carpets and in-room disco balls. In the lobby, walls change colour from warm desert shades to the deep hues of a night sky, depending on which way guests walk through the space.
Across the site, additional amenities are set to include “dive-in” film showings in the year-round heated pool and an expansive garden space kitted out with firepits and telescopes. Far Out Food, the property’s walk-up dining concept, will serve up classic American plates like burgers, fries and ice cream.
