Raffles London at The OWO unveils The Whitehall Wing
Raffles London at The OWO has announced that one of the most historically significant areas of the building will be available for exclusive reservations as The Whitehall Wing. The space will occupy the entire west wing of the piano nobile in the iconic main façade of the structure, and comprises the opulent Haldane Suite – formerly the office of significant political figures such as Lord Haldane, Winston Churchill and John Profumo – two Art Deco-style Corner Suites, a Junior Suite and two Deluxe Rooms. In total, The Whitehall Wing will be a six-bedroom, 500ft2 residence that can accommodate up to 12 guests.
At the centre of The Whitehall Wing is the Haldane Suite. This suite retains the original name of the room, as Lord Haldane was the first Secretary of State for War to have his office in the Old War Office. The suite of rooms was also used by significant military figures as Kitchener and Churchill. The historical panelling and mantelpieces have been preserved and restored, enriched by red Damask wall upholstery and furniture befitting an Edwardian Palace. There is a decorative Neo-Baroque plaster ceiling and a highly decorative original marble Georgian fireplace, taken from The War Office’s original Pall Mall premises. The grand windows overlooking Horse Guards and Whitehall are of the finest teak.
At either end of The Whitehall Wing are the rich British Art Deco Corner Suites, situated in the majestic cupolas overlooking Whitehall, which give The OWO its dramatic roofline. One is named after Viscountess Astor, the first woman seated as a Member of Parliament, whist the other is named after Clementine Churchill, Churchill’s beloved wife. The rooms were once occupied by senior members of the Army Council and offer guests unparalleled views over Horse Guards. The décor of the Corner Suites recalls the great English Art Deco traditions of Eltham Palace with carpets inspired by Marion Dorn and bespoke furniture that could have been found on the Queen Mary Ocean liner.
The Whitehall Wing also includes a Junior Suite with one king bed and a large seating area, and two deluxe rooms both with king beds, each with views of Whitehall. All rooms have en suite marble bathrooms with luxurious cottons, slippers and bathrobes, walk-in showers, bespoke baths, Dyson hairdryers and specially curated bathroom amenities by London perfumer Azzi Glasser for Raffles London at The OWO. There will also be unique art pieces curated in partnership with Artiq throughout.
Located in Whitehall, London’s most powerful address and within minutes of Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament, guests of The Whitehall Wing will be offered highly discreet and secure access via an underground parking facility. Guests booking The Whitehall Wing will also benefit from a VIP experience throughout their stay, with a complimentary two-way London airport transfer and dedicated Raffles Butlers for the group with their own dedicated Butler’s Pantry.
Whether sitting at an antique desk, positioned in the exact location and similar in style and scale to the one used by Churchill himself, entertaining on the six-person mahogany dining table in The Haldane Suite, or watching the changing of the guard from The Clementine Suite, every detail of the wing tells a story of the past.
