Hotel AKA NoMad Guestroom Lounge

Piero Lissoni designs AKA’s fourth New York hotel

AKA has expanded further into New York with the opening of Hotel AKA NoMad. Located on the corner of Madison Avenue, the hotel is woven into Manhattan’s Design District, designed by the Lissoni New York team to reflect the nature of the stylish neighbourhood.

The opening sees Piero Lissoni taking on his first New York City hotel, and his second US hotel project, following the opening of Hotel AKA Alexandria in April 2023. Design influences for the new hotel were pulled from minimalist Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics, with sleek materials and clean lines used throughout. Throughout public spaces and guestrooms, art collections and design details combine Japanese design with the beauty of Nordic simplicity, for instance geometric compositions by Dutch duo X+L which find home in the lobby. Other striking details in the new hotel include the signature Lissoni-designed staircase, which floats in the centre of the lobby, with a bronze, metallic steel forming the basis of the origami-like structure.

Within guestrooms, a soothing colour palette and sleek surfaces of metal, ceramic and stone are accompanied by furnishings and fixtures by LEMA, Living Divani, Porro and Salvatori, while a custom-designed window seat lays below large windows, allowing guests to take in expansive city views. Art curators at The Poster Club have chosen the artwork featured in guestrooms, courtesy of a range of Scandinavian artists.

“With NoMad’s acclaim as the city’s newest Design District and AKA’s emphasis on design-driven experiences, the midtown neighbourhood is a natural extension for the brand and an incredible addition to our NYC collection,” said Larry Korman, CEO of AKA. “Hotel AKA NoMad itself is a design destination with a unique ethos unlike any other in the neighbourhood. With AKA’s core residential philosophies woven into our new hotel property, we have evolved the traditional hotel category to offer a high-quality experience that is more livable.”

Additional spaces across the hotel include a wine bar, developed by Atelier AKA F+B, a library, Technogym fitness centre and an outdoor terrace, complete with cinema for warm-weather seasons.

Hotel AKA NoMad marks AKA’s fourth property in New York City, including the hotel residences AKA Central Park, AKA Sutton Place and AKA Times Square.
