Philippe Starck designs Madrid debut for Evok Collection

Evok Collection has announced the opening of Brach Madrid, its debut property in Spain and second location outside of Paris.

Brach Madrid finds home in a historic building originally constructed in 1922, and now regimagined by French architect and designer Philippe Starck, who has crafted a ‘modern nostalgic’ design scheme inspired by the 1920s and 30s.

The seven-storey building, complete with an elegant white stone façade, houses 57 guestrooms, as well as a restaurant, bar, patisserie and spa.

Brach Madrid’s rooms, including four suites, tell the story of a love affair, with Starck envisioning a man who has adorned interiors with memories of the woman he loves. The design is also intended to nod to the passage of time, and the lives of those who have used the spaces over the years.

“Madrid is a unique and paradoxical city. Scarred by 36 years of Francoism, it swung from one extreme to the other, from fascist dictatorship to Movida. For Brach Madrid, I wanted to encapsulate the unspoken spirit of Spanish poetry, a form of modern nostalgia that is never backward-looking,” says Philippe Stark. “At Brach Madrid, I’ve created a world of riches that people will be happy to revisit time and time again, with new details that reflect the attentions and whispers of buried memories.”

The guestrooms features a soft palette of jatoba wood and golden tones, complete with flashes of pink and orange. Bathrooms meanwhile feature stone and terracotta alongside moss green hues threaded throughout for a feeling of calm and serenity.

Elsewhere, Brach Madrid’s restaurant embodies the spirit of a Madrid’s 1920s grand cafes, while an intimate cocktail bar is inspired by Spain’s traditional village cafes, and an on-site pâtisserie is an homage to the tradition of coffees and pastries adored by both Parisians and Madrileños.

The property is also home to La Capsule, a wellness sanctuary that combines holistic practices with advanced technology. The spa, fit with cream marble interiors, features a 20m swimming pool, while La Capsule is also complete with a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, guided ice bath, infrared sauna, steam room, floatation bath and recovery room.
