Peninsula Shanghai opens its doors

The Peninsula Shanghai fronts the historic Bund with views of the Huangpu River, Pudong and the gardens of the former British Consulate, and blends with the historic architecture of its landmark neighbours along the Bund – a UNESCO-designated Modern Heritage Site.

Highlights include:

• 235 guestrooms, amongst the largest in the city, including 55 suites all with views of Pudong, the Huangpu River, the Bund or the gardens of the former British Consulate.  The Palace Suite features a 1,000 square metre wrap around terrace – the largest private terrace on the Bund.

• The hotel recreates the look of the 1920s and 30s with a modern interpretation of Art Deco design.  Guestrooms incorporate a number of traditional materials used in Shanghai in the 1920s – mahogany and ebony for the furniture and millwork contrasting against black Noir St Laurent and off-white St Talino stones.

• A collection of five eclectic restaurants and bars, including: The Lobby serving the celebrated Peninsula Afternoon Tea, Yi Long Court Chinese restaurant, Sir Elly’s Rooftop Restaurant Bar & Terrace, the nautical-themed Compass Bar and signature Salon de Ning bar, together with a range of meeting rooms and The Rose Ballroom.

• The Peninsula Spa by ESPA offering a city retreat with seven treatment rooms, two VIP suites, a 25m swimming pool and fitness centre. Heat experiences, highly-trained therapists and ESPA products work together to provide luxurious bespoke treatments for body and mind. The decor is inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel “The Great Gatsby”.

• Transfers by an immaculately restored 1934 Rolls Royce Phantom 11 (one of only three in the world) and shopping at the Peninsula Arcade featuring over 25 of the world’s top luxury brands together with The Peninsula Boutique.
