Pam Hotel brings Californian spirit to the Côte d’Azur

Pam Hotel has opened its doors in Nice, bringing the spirit of California to the French coast.

A new opening from Turenne Hôtellerie, the property comprises 102 guestrooms alongside a bar and restaurant.

A waxed pink concrete acts as an extension of the streets of Nice, welcoming guests into a West Coast-inspired playground, designed by Michael Malapert. Nods to the area begin in reception, through design details that include large backlit neon lights, walls decorated with longboards and vintage accessories that reference the 1970s.

“For a long time, people have held very cliched ideas about the city of Nice. Often it is wrongly confused with its neighbours Cannes or Monaco. On the contrary, it is a young, dynamic city that is expanding rapidly, with its own authentic way of life, thanks to the sea, the palm trees and the outdoor lifestyle,” says the designer. “These are the aspects that we wanted to foreground, via the kind of striking, brightly coloured and vibrant project that this city deserves. We wanted to give the city the gift of a vibrant and dynamic hub that would serve as meeting point for the lifestyles that are, right now, the coolest around.”

The property has been decked out in yellow, pink and celadon, including its guestrooms, which span five floors and range from 180ft² to 290ft². Taking centre stage in bedrooms are striking sunset-inspired headboards, accompanied by the likes of checkboard carpeting and quirky lighting fixtures.

Elsewhere, bar and restaurant Pamela’s pays homage to the one of the most famed of Californian girls, kitted out in pastel hues and neon signs.
