Ombria Resort unveils design plans

Ombria Resort, a new luxury development in the heart of the Algarve, has unveiled the design ethos behind its first phase across lifestyle and real estate elements.

With an initial investment of €100 million from Pontos Group – a Finnish private equity firm set to fund circa 60% of the estimated €260 million venture – Ombria Resort’s first development phase encompasses a 76-key hotel managed by Viceroy Hotels & Resorts, as well as 65 Viceroy Residences and real estate components the Alcedo Villas and Oriole Village.

Scheduled to open in 2020, the property’s overall design aesthetic has been developed in partnership with WATG, Wimberly Interiors and local architects Promontorio, and draws inspiration from the Algarve’s authentic Barrocal sub-region to create a ‘carved by nature’ ethos that enhances the area’s culture and traditional heritage by embracing local craftsmen and their knowledge of materials.

Designed to echo the style of nearby traditional towns, exteriors honour Portuguese craftsmanship in the form of rammed earth walls, manual fire-baked terracotta and lime plaster, while inside locally sourced materials accompany hand-plastered walls and a palette of blue and white patterns that pay homage to the region’s tile industry.

Set within 150 hectares of natural landscape, Ombria Resort will include an area for organic farming, honey harvesting facilities and an astronomical observatory, while the wider development will also house several restaurants and bars, a spa, conference centre and an 18-hole golf course designed by architect Jorge Santana da Silva. The course will also feature a clubhouse, designed by WATG, Wimberly Interiors and Promontorio, and located on a hilltop overlooking the golf course.

“Ombria Resort is an exclusive, world-leading luxury real estate development that embodies the authentic Algarve – where owners and guests will be fully connected with the local members of the community amidst a natural landscape of rolling green hills, rivers and lush cork and oak forests,” comments Julio Delgado, CEO, Ombria Resort. “Designed as an elegant Portuguese village with all the charm and character of a long-established settlement, the graceful and considered design of Viceroy at Ombria Resort hotel and Viceroy Residences at Ombria Resort will reflect the surrounding architecture of the Algarve.”

Elsewhere, The Alcedo Villas are made up of 12 individual detached homes ranging in size from 420-630m², each located on hillside plots next to Viceroy at Ombria Resort. For the Oriole Village, which comprises apartments, townhouses and villas, Promontorio took inspiration from a traditional Barrocal village to re-create a space where nature is respected and protected, and local species are used to enhance the existing landscape.
