NYC’s Roosevelt Island to welcome first hotel
Graduate Hotels is set to open a 224-key property on New York City’s Roosevelt Island in June 2021.
Becoming the first hotel on the island and marking the brand’s debut in The Big Apple, the 18-storey development will be located at the entrance to the Cornell Tech campus and managed by Highgate.
The building itself has been designed by Snøhetta and NYC-based architecture firm Stonehill Taylor, while its interiors are the work of Graduate Hotels’ in-house team and blend Old School and New Age, taking cues from both the rich history of Roosevelt Island and the future of technology that the campus embodies.
Los Angeles-based hospitality team – and New York natives – Med Abrous and Marc Rose meanwhile will mark their homecoming to the city as food and beverage partners. As such, the hotel’s culinary offer will include an all-day restaurant on the ground level, an indoor-outdoor rooftop bar and lounge with sweeping, unobstructed views of Manhattan, Queens and beyond, and more than 3,000f2 of flexible meeting space.
Graduate Hotels – a handcrafted collection of properties that reside in university-anchored towns across the US – is set to expand to the UK this Summer, bringing its deep-rooted community approach across the pond.
