New hotel plans for Old Trafford
On behalf of Lancashire County Cricket Club (LCCC), ICA has secured planning approval for a new 150-key Hilton Garden Inn at Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester.
The stadium has undergone a programme of transformation with the complete redevelopment of its facilities. Following completion of other major buildings on the site such as the Pavilion, The Point, and Player & Media Centre, the hotel will further cement the stadium’s reputation as an outstanding sport and events facility.
Opposite Trafford Town Hall, the site forms a key part of the northern edge of LCCC’s ground. Following demolition of the Old Trafford Lodge, the new hotel will counterbalance The Point at the other side of the ground, mirroring its relationship with The Pavilion. Together, these three buildings will complete the drama and arena experience intended in the original plan.
Offering large terraces, balconies, and extensive areas of glazing in the guestrooms and hospitality areas, the hotel’s design ensures guests can capitalise on the magnificent views over the cricket field. A glazed bridge link at third floor level also provides guests with direct access to the Pavilion and The Point’s hospitality facilities. Working with Hilton, ICA will combine and integrate the hallmarks of the Hilton Garden Inn brand with the design of the stadium’s other facilities, to make interior design a significant feature of the hotel.
Construction is due to commence later this year, with completion scheduled for March 2017.
