New boutique hotel for Mallorca

A 15th century tower house has been transformed into an exclusive boutique hotel in the historic walled town of Alcúdia, Mallorca.

The luxury Hotel Can Mostatxins (Hotel Moustache) opened its doors to the public in June 2015 after a four-year restoration.

The hotel features nine unique guestrooms all named after local coves, tying the hotel to the local area and is in keeping with the maintenance of the gothic style. It also offers the only spa pool in Alcúdia, creating a fusion between the traditional and modern.

Each room at Hotel Moustache comes with en-suite bathroom, free wifi, satellite flatscreen TV, fridge, telephone, safe, tea & coffee making facilities, air conditioning and blackout blinds for privacy. Other amenities include a Bose Bluetooth speaker and a guest iPad for public area use, as well as a range of books and games in the hotel library.

Hotel Moustache also features a Tower Suite. Laid out over two floors, the suite includes a living room, containing a sofa bed for one, and a ground floor bathroom as well as a bedroom on the upper floor. The wooden staircase leading to the bedroom complements the exposed stonework and oak flooring of the whole property.

The hotel also boasts its own fully trained in-house physiotherapist and provides a continental breakfast and Honesty bar.

Hotel Moustache has been developed by the Worthington Family who have been living and working in the region around Alcúdia and Pollenca for over 30 years. Former Vice President of InterContinental Hotels Peter Worthington was offered the house, known as Can Mostatxin, in 2009. Son Mark, who has 45 years of experience in the hotel industry, comments: “It is not often within a business or life that you are offered the opportunity to take on a project which will define your ability and success and deliver a lasting legacy.”

Hotel Moustache has strived to keep the original historical features of the building including a wine vat, the 15th century tower and a large courtyard cut out of the sandstone sitting 20m below ground.
