Moxy reveals second Berlin property
With interiors by JOI-Design, the new 101-key Moxy Berlin Humboldthain Park reflects the brand’s central, affordable, eclectic ethos. The designers have created a casual open-plan work, lifestyle and hotel environment featuring natural woods alongside bold and varied colours and materials, casually-placed seating and furniture, and exposed walls.
Focused on creating an uncomplicated atmosphere, JOI-Design dissolved borders throughout the hotel’s public areas and discretely doubled the reception desk as a coffee counter. Next to the entrance, the lounge offers a flexible selection of leather pillow seating including poufs, armchairs and beanbags, which are surrounded by colourful Persian carpets and an abundance of indoor greenery.
Neutral colours are contrasted by a dark ceiling with metal pipes and other exposed elements, while concrete surfaces are sprayed with graffiti to reflect the building’s history. A digital Moxy-guestbook is also displayed on a flat screen above the zone entrance, allowing guests to upload images from their mobile devices.
Designed to appeal to various demographics, the welcome zone flows into a quiet area with an open library and plug-in zone comprising computers, sockets, USB ports and Wi-Fi. The city of Berlin has been playfully weaved throughout in the form of historic facts and sightseeing ideas, while reference to the Berlin Bear mascot is made through graphic street art, a sculpture and minor decorative details such as the cushions in the hotel lounge.
Situated behind the coffee counter is a buffet with six stations, offering a simplified approach to dining in the form of freshly-made light dishes, a drinks bar, and a 24/7 retail experience featuring grab-and-go products. The dining space can house a long communal table or smaller private seating, while breakfast accoutrements are neatly hidden behind minimalist steel doors.
In contrast to the sociable public areas, guestrooms are more minimalistic and encompass natural colours and materials.
