Mövenpick to open Basel flagship in 2019

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts will open a new 264-guestroom hotel in Basel’s city centre in 2019, set to become the hotel group’s flagship European property. Located in the heart of the city, next to the SBB railway station, the 19-storey building is designed by architects Miller & Maranta, with interiors by Matteo Thun.

Mövenpick Hotel Basel will have a total of 264 large and airy guestrooms and suites, including 50 Mövenpick Sleep rooms where guests can enjoy individually adjustable beds, and the spacious Executive Lounge, with its floor-to-ceiling window front and furnished terrace with park views.

Additionally, the hotel will offer 1,800m² of meeting space, divided into 20 different rooms. The 500m² ballroom with a seven-metre-high ceiling will be able to accommodate up to 600 people.

In the hotel’s brasserie restaurant a show kitchen will serve modern dishes with a twist from the border triangle region of Switzerland, France and Germany. Elsewhere, in the ground-floor lobby, there will be a Mövenpick Wine & Coffee Lounge featuring high-quality natural materials and an outside seating area.

“With our Swiss roots and our distinctive service we’re delighted to be able to offer this very special hotel to customers in Basel. Our clear ambition is to become the best modern hotel in Basel,” comments Ola Ivarsson, COO Mövenpick Europe.
