Monte Uzulu – an 11-key boutique in the jungles of Oaxaca’s Pacific coast – has opened its doors.
Set in the fishing town of San Agustinillo, the property draws its name from the Zapotec gusulú (“the beginning”) and will seek to reconnect guests with natural surroundings via a balance of sustainable comfort and a low-impact experiences.
Marking a creative collaboration between studios including Taller Lu’um and At-te along with a selection of local artisans and professionals, Monte Uzulu has been envisioned with a peaceful aesthetic emphasising minimalist, bohemian detailing incorporated within a natural material palette.
Interior elements including straw lamps, handmade Michoacán basketwork and carved wooden furnishings all nod to local craft technoques, whilst region specific materials used throughout construction add an extra layer of depth whilst allowing the property to maintain a light footprint.
