Mondrian Shoreditch collaborates with Jack Irving for London Design Week
Mondrian Shoreditch has unveiled an inflatable rocket sculpture on its façade, brought to life by designer and artist Jack Irving in celebration both of London Design Week and the hotel’s second birthday.
Aptly named Futura, the rocket was first installed for the hotel’s first birthday in 2022, returning this year with an interactive lighting element that reflects off the artwork’s shiny exterior. Measuring 12m wide and 8m high, and with a contrasting orange and purple mirror nylon finish, the impressive installation covers the entire front façade of the hotel.
In addition to Futura, the hotel’s lobby is also temporarily home to one of Irving’s recent designs, The Anemone Dress. Entirely made of deep purple latex, the outfit is inspired by deep organisms and sea anemones, designed to move like tentacles interacting with deep sea currents. The dress is on display in Mondrian Shoreditch’s mirror room – a space just off the lobby where the floor, walls and ceiling are covered in mirrors.
The installation marks the second collaboration between the hotel and Irving, who has worked with the likes of Lady Gaga, Doja Cat and Cheryl Cole. The rocket and outfit will be on display at Mondrian Shoreditch until the end of October.
