Meliá to launch Malaga property in 2024
Meliá Hotels International is set to expand its luxury portfolio with a 2024 opening in central Malaga. Comprising 128 guestrooms, the property will be added to the group’s ME by Meliá brand.
Designed by Álvaro Sans Arquitectura Hotelera (ASAH) and taking inspiration from the group’s Milan property, ME Málaga’s exterior will see wide windows opening the building up to create bright and light interior spaces. Decor will fuse calming white tones with local Málaga limestone, seeking to capture the cultural and architectural essence of the city.
On the ground floor, the main restaurant and a large reception lounge will sit side-by-side. Meanwhile, the roof will be home to a heated infinity pool with sundeck, bar and restaurant. These spaces will be the epicentre of guests’ socialisation and the hotel’s cultural events, run in collaboration with local artists and trends.
“I’m convinced that ME by Meliá will find a natural home in this city, successfully responding to the demands of modern travellers for luxury experiences,” says Gabriel Escarrer, Executive Vice President and CEO of Meliá. “I share the vision and commitment of both Malaga City Council and our partners in the project, aiming to make this hotel a benchmark for luxury, modernity and prosperity on the Costa del Sol.”
Initially planned as a four-star hotel, the project was elevated to five stars thanks to the intervention of Malaga City Council. Led by Domingo Corpas’ architecture studio, construction is expected to begin in March, following archaeological surveys conducted in line with local authorities’ recommendations.
Once complete, the site will form part of Meliá’s growing portfolio, projected to increase by more than 40% over the next three years.
