Marriott has signed an agreement with developer and operator Temes to debut the W Hotels Worldwide brand in Greece with the opening of W Costa Navarino in the Peloponnese. Arriving in Summer 2022, the property is the latest addition to the W Escapes portfolio in Europe, following sites in Spain, Switzerland and Portugal.
Forming part of Navarino Waterfront, the newest integrated resort of Costa Navarino, the 13-hectare development has been designed by Greek practice Tombazis & Associates Architects and draws inspiration from the region’s traditional residential areas, combining local, natural materials such as stone, wood and reed. Inside, 246 guestrooms, suites and villas – many with private pools staged in the Bay of Navarino to offer panoramic views of the Ionian Sea – are being envisioned by London-based MKV Design.
‘‘We are thrilled to build on our fantastic relationship with Temes, strengthening Marriott International’s presence in this Mediterranean paradise,” says Candice D’Cruz, Vice President – Luxury Brands for EMEA. “Joining our portfolio of W Escapes around the world, W Costa Navarino will add a distinct take on modern luxury to Navarino Waterfront. We look forward to welcoming travellers to this new luxury playground.”
The property is also set to comprise five dining venues, including a destination beach club designed by Athens-based K-Studio. Elsewhere, the ‘Culinary Square’ is the hotel’s playful take on a deli food market with individual outlets designed for all-day dining, while other amenities include a sunset bar and the signature W Living Room. Guests will also have access to culinary hotspots in Costa Navarino, notably the new Navarino Agora – a marketplace with retail, street food, open-air cinema and an events programme.
Achilles Constantakopoulos, Chairman of Temes, comments: “W Costa Navarino will generate a unique energy, encouraging connection whilst respecting and honouring authentic experiences and cultures. In this important chapter for the growth of the destination, we believe W Costa Navarino will significantly contribute to our vision in further establishing Messinia as a top international destination to visit and to live.”
Tennis courts and a water sports hub are also part of the vision, along with access to four golf courses and outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking, rock climbing and sailing. The hotel will join two other Marriott properties in Costa Navarino – The Westin Costa Navarino and The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort.
