Marine & Lawn to make Northern Irish debut
Slieve Donard, the first Northern Irish property from golf hotel chain Marine & Lawn, is set to open in the summer of 2023, following extensive renovations to a historic property.
Rich in heritage and positioned adjacent to the renowned Royal County Down Golf Club, the hotel was first built in 1898 by the Belfast & County Down Railway. With a design led by AJ Capital Partners’ in-house studio, the new decor across the 180-key property will pay homage to the destination’s seaside beauty and rich Irish traditions, with an aim to preserve the Victorian elements and characteristics of the building. Across the railway-inspired lobby are also nods to nature, with a large variety of overhanging plants and artwork featuring local landscapes and scenery.
Food and beverage spaces embody a similar marriage of land and sea. Warm, welcoming interiors showcase original architectural details while textural design elements such as Victorian-inspired wallcoverings and statement chandeliers bring a refreshed personality to the space.
Many of the rooms – all of which will be completely refurbished upon opening – across the property offer panoramic views over the mountains of Mourne and the County Down coastline. Colour palettes throughout are inspired by the wild scenery surrounding the hotel, with florals dotted around the spaces.
The property will be the fourth in Marine & Lawn’s collection, with Slieve Donard marking the group’s first venture outside of Scotland, while another Scottish property is due for completion in Dornoch this year.
