Lore Group unveils second property in DC
Lore Group has opened Lyle Washington DC, a new independent hotel in the capital’s Dupont Circle district.
Marking the second US property from the operator following the launch of Riggs Washington DC last year, Lyle is located on New Hampshire Avenue in an early 1940s Art Deco building originally housing apartments.
In designing the interiors, Lore Group’s Creative Director Jacu Strauss looked to create a world of calm, a place where guests can feel comfort in understated style. The luxury is in the details; soft Art Deco references celebrate the building’s original features, while there’s also nods to craftsmanship and natural materials. Strauss’ aim was to devise a space where people could say goodbye to the noise of the outside world.
“With Lyle, we wanted to take the best of ‘home’ and make it even better,” says Abe Liao, Lore Group’s Regional General Manager for the DC area and a native Washingtonian. “It’s our priority for our guests to feel as content and comfortable during their time at Lyle, as they might when staying in a friend’s beautiful apartment. Whether staying in one of our guestrooms, hosting a meeting, dining in Lyle’s, or catching up with friends for coffee – if we’re doing our job right, Lyle should feel like it was designed just for you.”
In the guestrooms and penthouse suite, Strauss’ aesthetic brings together neutral tones and natural materials such as Burl wood Art Deco headboards, rattan seating and Berber carpets. The mattresses and linens were chosen for maximum comfort while artworks and the majority of furnishings are bespoke and designed by Strauss and his team. The rooms feel inviting and residential, as do the bathrooms with their handmade tiles and D.S & Durga amenities. Additionally, 56 of the 196 rooms feature kitchenettes for long stay visitors.
The restaurant and bar, Lyle’s, is an intimate, inviting and welcoming venue comprising bespoke furniture, a custom Herman Miller pendant cluster and an open kitchen. Nestled into the corner of the building, it serves breakfast, brunch and dinner as well as familiar cocktails prepared with a gentle twist. The menu – developed by seasoned chef Nicholas Sharpe, who previously worked with Fabio Trabocchi at Michelin-starred Italian restaurant Fiamma in New York City – combines seasonal ingredients with contemporary American fare.
Rounding out the offer are a number of meetings and event spaces suitable for everything from private dining to intimate weddings. The Private Dining Room couples rich tones of red on the walls, ceiling and floor with a custom black and white dining table, while The Parlor on the first floor is filled with an eclectic mix of furniture and art to create a less formal space that can be transformed for several uses, from meetings to private dining for larger parties. The lower ground area is also home to meeting, event and break out spaces, which a more residential in style than traditional MICE offerings. The lower ground area houses a gym too.
