Lifestyle aparthotel brand Locke has announced it will open its sixth Locke in London in July 2023, with a new property set for Kensington and Chelsea.

The 121-key aparthotel will be spread across eight floors, with apartments ranging from studios to duplex one-bedroom spaces. The site’s lobby and common areas will be complemented by a coffee shop, bar and restaurant, while further public spaces will come in the form of a co-working space, meeting room, a small stage and a garden.

Prominently situated on Cromwell Road, the hotel will be collaboratively designed by creative and interior design studios Atelier Ochre and House of Dré. The inspiration behind the design has been taken from the late Kensington Roof Gardens and the laissez-faire flamboyance of mid-century fashion brand Biba, born in Kensington’s bohemian fashion scene in the 1960’s.

The apartments have been curated as a series of boudoir rooms with colourful tones, vibrant patterns and Art Deco details. Bold character pieces including sweeping rolled banquette seating, deconstructed wardrobes and retro fittings will find home alongside brass detailing, fringes, tassels and heavy dividing curtains.

The layering of casual and bohemian spaces with warm, earthy tones will be combined with maximalist furnishings throughout, while 21st century retro-futuristic notes will make the interiors a nostalgia-soaked reimagining of Kensington glamour. Bespoke art pieces by House of Dré will adorn the walls in guestrooms and public spaces, while a host of local and emerging artists’ work will also be on display.
